Backup, backup, backup…

laptop-thumb

I am in the process of transferring lots of files over from an older desktop computer to a shiny new laptop (isn’t it nice!) and I was reminded…

There’s nothing like a good backup!

It’s been easy because I have good backups of most of my documents and installation programs. And I know we are protected due to our double-layer backup procedure:

We’ve written about the importance of backing up before here and here and now would be great time to get or renew you subscription to Mozy. Click here or use our link to the right and use the code “AUGUST” to get 10% off your subscription. Cool deal for such a hot summer day!

I’m going to go do some backups right now! When did you do your last back-up?

(full disclosure: we are a Mozy affiliate)

Stan, love reading your nice short lessons but I have to comment here…love Moze, BTW, but when you say something is free one generally expects it to be, well, free…though I have to say I wondered, back-up for free? But it’s not free, it’s $30 or $49.95. Just thought I’d throw that in. Also, an oddity. Did you know you have to include the www. on that web site? Usually, you can just enter the site and it goes but for this one I got something else. Just thought you should know.

Patricia, it may not have been clear from the site, but they do have a free option – up to 2G. If you need more (and most of us do) then you have to pay. We use the free version on one of our computers to back up email and Word docs, and the pay version on two others to back up everything (including EHDs). As for the url, it’s our affiliate link. You can enter the site directly, but they won’t know we sent you! Hope that clears things up. And I’m jealous of Stan’s new lappytoppy. What I want to know is why HE gets both a new laptop and the monitor from the dead computer… seems to me that she with the older, decrepit laptop should have the big monitor :)

BTW, forgot to say congrats on your new system. I am hoping to get one someday (hopefully soon), too. Oops and that’s MOZY not Moze in my last comment. Enjoy it!! I’m envious.

Patricia – I think you meant the SyncBack software – if so, the link in the post brings you directly to their free software – SyncBack Freeware.
