We do one of these tutorials every week at our Feeling Scrappy crop! If you'd attended crop on this date, you'd have gotten this template and QP set FREE! (http://www.scrapkittydesign.com/tutorials/TEMPLATES.pdf)

Layered templates are a great way to speed up your scrapping. By starting with a design already laid out, you’ve minimized the decisions you have to make to scrap your page! A good template will have space for photos and journaling, be well balanced and pleasing to the eye.
But sometimes your templates will not quite fit the bill! Too many or too few photos, the wrong shapes or sizes, wrong size page, too many elements for your taste? Unlike with quick pages, a layered template lets you change all these things!
Let’s look at some ideas for getting more from our layered templates:

A well balanced page should allow you to rotate the page for a different look. 90 degrees in either direction or 180 degrees will get you a completely different look, and allow you to choose different photos or place your journaling differently.

2.Rotate the elements! Just turning an element 90 degrees will change the look of the page, and perhaps allow you to use a particular photo or a different piece of word art.

3.Replace the elements! Just because there’s an element that looks like a strip of paper, doesn’t mean it has to be a piece of paper. Try a ribbon, several flowers, a border, or whatever appeals to you. It’s the shape and size of the element that matters, not what it’s made of!

4.Crop away! You can easily make a smaller layout from a larger one – just crop a section of the layout that is pleasing to you. You may need to delete elements that only partly show in the crop, but usually you can get a portion of the template to work on its own.
What other techniques do you use to change up your templates? Do you move things around? Add elements or take away elements? Do you find you use your templates more when you look at them in a new light?
Happy Scrapping!
