Stan and I spent the day laying flooring… and we’re still married! YAY us!
The hardest part was getting that first board absolutely straight! And that reminded me of a Quick Tip for you!
Know when you scan photos and sometimes they aren’t really straight? Then you have to try to rotate them until they look right, but they’re never quite right… or do you?
If you’re a PSE user, you’re in luck, you can use the Straighten Tool:
just click and drag along one edge, and it will read the angle and adjust the image accordingly! Magic!
But what are us PS users to do? WELL… here’s a Quick Tip for you too:
Choose your Ruler Tool – it’s under the eyedropper.

Click and drag along the bottom edge, just like above. Then go to Image>Rotate>Arbitrary:

and you will get a dialog box like this:
Notice the angle is already inserted for you! Now just hit OK, and your image is straightened!
Now go ahead – Straighten Up!!

This is such a wonderful tip thanks so much. I have this problem a lot and you are right rotate never quite gets it done. And, my husband and I laid a new kitchen floor about a month ago and we made it through also. It’s a challenge though…..rofl.
Thanks for the great tip Jenn & now that yawl are good & experienced you can come to my house. LOL
Great tip! I will need a new floor after the plumbing problems I had Sunday. You guys gonna be busy in the next couple of weeks?
Glad you are still married! Thank you for the fantastic tip!
Great tip, I’ve actually been all over your blog today, great tips and a lot of interesting stuff in here. Thanks!!
very cool that y’all did your own floor! YAY!
thanks for the tip! I always do it the hard way, now i have a new way!!!
Great tips of course. We put wood flooring in some years ago. Glad I had a son-in-law and son to catch most of the “stuff”. LOL We are getting ready to redo our bedroom. So I do feel for you!
Just to lighten everyone’s day further-
What Jenn didn’t mention (and we don’t have incriminating photos to show) is how inept we BOTH were in keep the ultra-sticky, stick-to-everything-on-contact glue that we were using. Jenn got some on her sock (don’t know how!) and glued her sock to the floor. We’re like the Stooges doing this floor. But it looks great.
Great tips, can’t wait to try the PSE one out!
We are fixing to lay down flooring in our living room soon, and I’m dreading it. I to would probably glue my sock, and many other things, to the floor with out knowing how I did it!
Thanks Jenn – would love to see your floor.
Hi, thanks for this tip, I just needed to know this week how to do this and glad there is a simple way! thanks again for all the tips and help here.
[...] You don’t! But it’s an easy fix, we did a Quick Tip Tuesday post on it here. But if you want to try, you can tape them from the back onto a piece of paper or card stock [...]
