Quick Tip Tuesday – Don’t forget to Save As…

Thanks to reader Pam for sending in this fun tip – I checked it out and while it’s not a whiz-bang-wow tip, it’s pretty useful!  It entertained Stan for at least 5 minutes!

Here’s the tip:
To save your file and close it at the same time, try this -  Hold down the SPACE BAR and click on the little red x like you’re closing the file.  Let off the mouse button first, then let off the space bar and the Save As dialog will appear! (It won’t work until you let off the space bar).  All you have to do is locate the folder where you want to save it, or change the name or file type, and hit ok, and you’re done!  Saved and closed.

I can see using this when I’m making alphas, or have a lot of windows open and want to close them quickly.  It saves you a click and is easier on the fingers than the SHIFT+CTRL+S shortcut to Save As.

This works in most versions of Photoshop, and PSE6 and 7.
