Quick Tip Tuesday – More type tips

I have always wanted to work most efficiently in Photoshop and in Elements so that I can concentrate on the creativity of what I am doing and not have to waste time hunting for functions on menus. So I am a huge user of keyboard short-cuts. Jenn initially wasn’t a big keyboard shortcut user but since she started designing she has come to realize how much of a great timesaver they can be. Here’s 4 more that will help you get the right size type when working in Photoshop or Elements.

Fess up time: I am guilty of knowing these and not using them! They are great time savers so I will start using them right away! (I tested these in Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 and Photoshop CS – they should work in all versions though).

type-boxIn the type size box along the top, Ctrl-click and drag left and right to reduce and enlarge the type before your eyes. (Early version of Photoshop and Elements your cursor may actually change to arrows pointing left and right.

Second and this is a cool one: again click inside the type size box and use the scroll wheel on your mouse to enlarge or reduce the type.

Third: Also in the type size tool bar, use your up and down arrow keys to change the type size up or down by one point. Holding down the Shift key and using the arrow up or down will change the value by ten.

character-boxNow the three shortcuts above also work in character palette. Access your character palette by selecting your type tool and hitting the character toggle button character-toggle along the top of the type tool bar.

type-selectedAnd the last one: Here’s one to easily resize type that you have selected without even gong up to the type size tool bar! With your type selected in your layout of picture, hit Ctrl-Shift-< to make the type smaller and Ctrl-Shift-> to make the type bigger.

I hope these quick tips keep your working faster and easier in both Photoshop and Elements. So what do you think? Were these helpful or did I just confuse everyone! Leave us a comment.

Until next week – Keep Scrappin’
