I know I’m late on this, it’s been a busy week, winding up our community college photography classes, and gearing up for our full Saturday of local classes!
If you’ve taken one of our photo editing classes, you’ll know that we always recommend you look over your edits at 100% zoom. While that looks impossibly large on the screen, it’s what your eye will be able to see when your image is printed. Rough edges, incomplete erasures, misspelled text, and more can be avoided by taking a closer look!
There are several ways to zoom in:
- Set your mouse’s scroll wheel to zoom (Go to Edit> Preferences> General and check the zoom with scroll wheel box).
- Use the Navigator (Window> Navigator)
- Keyboard shortcut CTRL+ALT+0 (zero)
- or my favorite: double-click on the Zoom tool! You don’t have to change tools or anything, just move the cursor over the zoom tool and double-click. It won’t change tools on you, just zoom you in to 100%!
When you want to see the whole image again, just double click on the Hand tool to make it fit the window, and make your window fit the workspace! These work in PS and PSE, all the recent versions I could test. Do leave a comment if you find otherwise!

Oh I like to use my scroll wheel on my mouse for this!
Love that shirt, Stan. I’d like to be in Hawaii about now… sigh.
Thanks for the great tips, Jenn.
