Scraplift Saturday – Telling the Story

Alwayse-Teaching One of the major differences between my paperscrapping friends’ layouts and a lot of the digital layouts I see is the use of multiple photos.  It seems that many more digiscrappers tend to use just one or two photos, or tightly cropped photos.

This layout caught my eye, not only for it’s dramatic coloring, but for how well it tells a story!  The mix of close-up, medium distance, and long shots really set the scene and showed some detail.

It reminded me that a large part of the reason we scrap is to tell stories, which we do with images and journaling.  But I need to be sure that I don’t leave out part of the image story!  Some suggestions for capturing the story in pictures:

  • Get the long view – don’t forget to capture your surroundings. You want to remember the details of grandma’s kitchen, or the classroom, or wherever you are.
  • Capture a variety of perspectives – even photos taken from behind can be very powerful.  A mix of views can tell different facets of the story – don’t forget a closeup of the half-eaten cake, or the bowling shoes on a bench – each of these adds a dimension to the story.
  • Feature a photo- just because you’re using multiple photos doesn’t mean you can’t highlight that beautiful shot!  One of the big advantages of digiscrapping is we can resize our photos.  If you have a standout shot, make it larger than the others to show it off, but don’t leave out the supporting photos that add detail and texture to the story!

So if you’re a single-image scrapper, try a multiple photo page! There are great templates available – one of my favorite  multipic template designers is Yin  – check out her single and two-page templates on her blog Simply Yin!

Don’t forget to share your results in our gallery, we love to see what you’re up to!

Happy Scrapping!
