Every Saturday, I’m going to post a layout here that inspired me this week! It might be something posted on this site, something I came across in a yahoo group, or something I went out and about looking for! This layout inspired me this week to try something similar (and not half as good!):(edited – link removed – image removed from DigiShop Talk gallery)
Making Mermaids:
Kit: Song of Hope – Amanda Thorderson, Fish Templates – ScrapKitty Design
Font: Angelina
What I especially liked is how she used a font then made it look like it was cut out of paper. I’m not sure how Kait did it, but I found an easy way -
I did the type on a layer over the paper, merged the two layers, then used my polygonal lasso tool to ‘rough cut’ a selection around a letter, CTRL+C to copy, and CTRL+V to paste on my layout.
Then I moved them around and played with the shadows. I think I could have done better with the shadows, Kait does an amazing job with them, and that’s one of the things that makes her work stand out!
If you like this week’s inspirational layout, go leave Kait some love HERE
Hope you’re inspired too – show us your inspirations in our gallery! If you inspire me, you just might find yourself on our blog!

Kait
Jenn, I am both surprised and honoured. The alpha I used already had the paper look, all I am responsible for is the shadows. I varied the distance and opacity of the shadows for a realistic look.
I will give your tutorial a try. Thank you!
