(yes, I know it’s Friday. That’s just how life is going these days.)
I read a marvelous piece by Judith Warner today about her experiences on inauguration day. She talks movingly about “this sense of being so caught up in life as to miss it.”
Sometimes it just feels like life is FLYING by, doesn’t it? You turn around, the kids are 4 inches taller, need new pants and shoes, there are a hundred gray hairs where yesterday there were none, and you wonder – how the heck did THAT happen?
Here’s an old photo of us on the beach in Cape Cod. The little girl in the center is now a teenager. This 24×36 photo hangs prominently near our desks because I love to see it. Gazing on it in the middle of a stressful workday can transport me back to a place and time that is near forgotten.
That’s why I scrap.
When it seems I’m always a day late and a dollar short, I know that by taking a few minutes to capture these moments I’m committing them to my memory. So while I may not remember where my keys are or whether we need milk at the store, someday I can go to my albums and recover the moments that I almost missed grasping as they rushed by.
So thank you all you wonderful scrappers, for motivating me to scrap. Thank you Judith Warner for putting into words so many thoughts I didn’t know I had. Thank you Adobe for giving me the means to record this crazy life. And Thanks to God for this wonderful life, crazy as it may be!
Keep on Scrapping!
Jenn

Oh Jenn…this is a precious photo!!!
It’s true, moments rush by so very very quickly. Eric is about to graduate from college, and has a job interview next week in CT (he’s on his 4th with them). Oh to have those childhood moments BACK. I’m so very sad I didn’t scrap them when he was growing up!
Thanks for reminding me…… this has been one of those days here too. See ya Sunday!
Very very well said. You really wonder where the time went when you look back at those precious moments. Thanks, Jenn.
Beautiful photo! Great writing too!
I blogged Thursday about why I scrap too!! Crazy world, huh? If you like you can read it here… http://www.valerigail.blogspot.com/
But basically I scrap because its the tangible, touchable memory saved forever.
Jenn,
I know what ya mean about life happening before you know it.
One day I was a young college student having the time of my life & the next I was a middle aged woman with all kinds of problems. Where did the time go?
Thanks for your thoughts… they do hit home!
Great photo. I believe scrapping is not making memories but recording them for future generations.
